Pakistani electricity bills contain several numbers, and two are often confused: the reference number and the consumer ID (also called customer ID). Using the wrong one is the most common reason people cannot open their bill online or pay through an app.

The reference number
- 14 digits, printed near the top of the bill.
- Identifies your connection by batch, sub-division and account.
- Used on PITC online bill portals, in banking apps and wallets, and in most complaint systems.
- Can change if your connection is shifted to another sub-division or batch after reorganisation.
The consumer ID
- Usually a shorter number, printed separately on the bill.
- A permanent identifier for the customer account in the DISCO's system.
- Used by some DISCO services and offices, for example when applying for changes or checking certain records.
- Generally stays the same even if the reference number changes.
Other numbers on the bill
- Meter number: the serial number of the meter installed at your premises — useful when reporting a faulty meter.
- Tariff code: shows your category, such as A-1 (residential) or A-2 (commercial).
- Feeder name/code: the power line serving your area — handy when reporting outages.
Which number to use when
- Checking a duplicate bill online: reference number.
- Paying in a bank app, JazzCash or Easypaisa: reference number (some apps may also accept consumer ID — follow the app's label).
- Reporting a fault on 118: reference number, plus your address and feeder if known.
- Applying for load extension, name change or meter change: both numbers may be requested; take the full bill.
What to do if your reference number changed
DISCOs occasionally reorganise sub-divisions. If your bill shows a new reference number, update it in your banking app's saved billers. Payments made to an old number can be delayed or misapplied, so confirm with the sub-division if you are unsure.
Quick tip
Save a photo of your latest bill on your phone. It gives you the reference number, consumer ID and meter number whenever you need them.
