Net Metering Application Basics in Pakistan

A general guide to the major concepts involved in a distributed solar interconnection application.

If you want your rooftop solar system connected to the grid in Pakistan, you need to apply to your DISCO for a grid-connected (prosumer) connection with a bidirectional meter. Since NEPRA's Prosumer Regulations 2026 (notified in February 2026), new connections fall under net billing rather than the old net metering terms, but the application steps are broadly similar.

Who can apply

Before you apply

Typical application steps

  1. Your installer prepares the application with system details (panels, inverter, single-line diagram).
  2. Submit the application to your DISCO, often through its online portal, with copies of your bill and CNIC.
  3. Pay applicable fees (the 2026 regulations introduced a concurrence fee per kW, as reported).
  4. The DISCO carries out a technical feasibility check and site inspection.
  5. A larger system may need a load flow study.
  6. Sign the agreement with the DISCO (reported at five years under the new rules).
  7. The DISCO installs the bidirectional meter (or two meters).
  8. The connection is energised and billing starts on import and export.
